We're Live: Improbable Remains Opens Its Doors

Today marks a milestone I'm incredibly proud to share: Improbable Remains is now live.

What started as a holiday coding project has transformed into a full-fledged AI-powered murder mystery platform, and we're opening the doors for everyone to step into the detective's shoes.

Six Days From Discord to the World

On January 4th, 2026, we ran our first murder mystery game in Discord—a case called "The Chromium Cipher." It was our third AI-generated game over the Christmas break, following a guess-the-object game and an escape-the-situation bot. But this one felt different.

The first crime generated

Watching players interrogate AI suspects, piece together clues, and solve the mystery made it clear this could be something bigger.

Six days later, here we are.

Why We Built This

Discord was great for testing, but it had limits. Not everyone lives in Discord servers, and typing character names correctly on mobile just to talk to suspects was… less than ideal.

I envisioned a platform where anyone could:

  • Jump straight into a case
  • See the characters they’re interrogating
  • Immerse themselves in a proper, atmospheric mystery experience

Moving to the web unlocked something special: visuals.

AI-generated images can be tricky, but when they work, they transform the experience. You're not just reading dialogue—you’re seeing the rain-slicked streets, the shadowy suspects, the crime scenes.

Personally, I love the noir aesthetics our generator creates. There’s something about that moody, atmospheric style that just works for detective stories.

Under the hood, the system is model-agnostic from day one. Every game function can independently switch between AI models, letting us optimize for quality and cost as technology evolves.

We also learned from our earlier games that pre-generation is key:

  • AI isn’t truly random
  • We generate scenarios in advance
  • We test them and ensure quality

Better generation investment means better games—and it means multiple people can experience the same mystery without it breaking.

Ironically, when we play tested the first game, we got the answer wrong!

The wrong accusation!

But we had played for nearly an hour and a half, and even though we had got the answer wrong (mainly because, bad prompt generation), we had had immense fun. And I think thats when we realised this could be actually good. It could be bigger, and so, we built the full product.

Now It’s Your Turn

This is where you come in.

We’re keeping Improbable Remains free while we build our player base and continue refining the technology. Consider this our beta phase—I’m sure there are bugs lurking in the shadows (it is a murder mystery platform, after all).

We genuinely want your feedback.

You’ll find feedback links at the bottom of every page. Tell us:

  • What works
  • What doesn’t
  • What kinds of mysteries you want to see
  • What features would make you feel like a proper detective

We’re building this with you, not just for you.

Ready to Investigate?

The crime scenes are waiting.

The suspects are ready to be interrogated.

The truth is out there, buried under lies and misdirection.

Welcome to Improbable Remains. Time to solve your first case.
